Activity 4: The Earth Summit
.The Earth Summit is an event that is attended by many representatives from countries all over the world. They discuss very important issues regarding the Earth such as global warming, climate change, resources and lots of other things.
.United Nations Conference on Environment and Development.
.It was held from the 3rd of June to the 19th of June 1992.
.It was held in Rio de Janeirio.
.The most recent Earth Summit is going to be held from the 20th-22nd of June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro.
.The purpose of the Earth Summit is to try and find ways to make the Earth cleaner, more efficient in using its resources and try to find ways to sustain this way of life.
.At the Earth Summit the representatives made a blueprint called the Agenda 21 and this blueprint was a plan to keep the earth’s resources sustainable and promote rural development.
.I think it is necessary to have these events for a number of reasons. It makes people more aware of what is going on around us, and that it is not just a story, it is real and cannot be ignored. It also gets people to start doing something, not just get them to sit around waiting for something to happen.
.No, I don’t think that the 1992 Earth Summit was successful at all because nothing really happened after the summit. There was also not another summit held until this year which proves that it wasn’t very successful and they are trying again to put the Earth Summit into action.
.Sustainable development is to keep the earth inhabitable and have resources readily available for of future generations. The Earth Summit’s main goal was to try and get the scheme going.
